By his count he's netted 471 shad on 24 hauls. So far, it's been a good spring shad run. The river is expected to crest Wednesday night before slowly going down, he said. Rain doesn't dampen entire fishing weekendĪs far as the rest of the weekend went, some fishermen did hit the surf and landed striped bass, both at the front of the storm and during the small breaks when the rain let up for an hour or so. A few fish have already revealed themselves in the surf but its doubtful there are many to be had off the beaches just yet. It's unlikely too many fishermen will try the ocean for fluke as the temperature is still too chilly for it to be very productive.
It should get cleaned though with some west winds starting tonight and lasting through Wednesday. While sun was drying the Shore out on yesterday, the ocean was still a bit rough. The big news of course is summer flounder, or fluke season, starts today. He entered the fish into the LBI Spring Derby contest. Ciervo was fishing at a beach in Surf City with bunker. On Friday, a 10 pounder was caught by Patrick Ciervo of Cape May Court House.
Out front the blues were in the LBI surf all weekend. Bluefish were also landed from the docks on the bayside of Ship Bottom on Long Beach Island, according to Fisherman's Headquarters on Sunday morning.
